Across central Illinois, many people struggle with the daunting tasks of selecting and enrolling in insurance programs, solving billing issues, and fighting claim denials. On their own, these individuals may face exorbitant bills, unjust charges and more. Sponsored by the Illinois Department of Aging, Decatur Catholic Charities serves as a Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), helping eligible individuals in rural communities across Macon, Moultrie and Shelby counties free of charge. Catherine Stanford volunteers as the SHIP counselor at Catholic Charities of Decatur, using her skills to help others make informed decisions about insurance coverage.
Several SHIP sites are available in these three counties: Mid-Illinois Senior Services Inc- Sullivan; Community Care Systems, Inc – Shelbyville. There are five sites in Decatur, including Catholic Charities, CHELP, Macon County Health Department - Starting Point; Macon Resources, Inc. and Scovill West Activity Center.
