At our Mobile Food Pantry distributions, we have the chance to meet and interact with the most vulnerable members of our community. While the food we provide is essential for our clients, Tania Manns of Familia Dental offers a service less often thought of, but just as important. “We are here for our community, and we always like to give back and help those that are in need,” Tanya says. As the Communications Relations Coordinator for Familia Dental, she frequently travels to food pantries and mobile food pantries, giving out toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash and toothpaste. If a client she meets needs a dental service, she helps to make the appointment and follow up with them.
Tania often visits the same food pantries and interacts with familiar faces. If they need something she cannot provide, she connects them with community resources. Familia Dental’s focus on serving low-income families helps the most vulnerable members of our community get the care they need. They accept Medicaid, medicare, and private insurance, and families without insurance coverage can receive an exam, x-rays and a cleaning for $49 for children, or $65 for adults. Familia Dental also offers dental education to the community. They give presentations at local schools to help with children’s fear of the dentist. They even have a mobile unit that enables a dentist and hygienist to visit schools directly, providing dental cleanings and sealants to students in need.
We are grateful to Tania and Familia Dental and the services offered to our clients through our Food Pantry and our Mobile Food Pantry programs.
