DOT Foods Neighbor to Neighbor Program Delivers to Quincy Food Pantry

With the temporary suspension of SNAP benefits, countless people nationwide are struggling to make ends meet. When they ask for help, who is there to act? This past week, Quincy Catholic Charities and the DOT Foods Neighbor to Neighbor program answered the call. Bright and early this past week, employees from DOT Foods unloaded a truckload of food at the Quincy Catholic Charities Food Pantry, light hearts making quick work of their burdens.

“With our Neighbor to Neighbor program, we have a different approach to supporting local food pantries,” Suzy Parn, director of Dot’s corporate charitable committee, said. “Instead of waiting for requests, we proactively reach out to pantries near our locations, give them the chance to choose what they need most, and then deliver those items directly. It’s a hands-on approach that connects our employees to the communities we serve in a really meaningful way.”

The Neighbor to Neighbor program launched 14 years ago, and while the timing of this latest delivery is right before the Thanksgiving holiday, Dot donates to pantries year-round.

"We’ve been very, very busy within the last month,” Kevin Williams, Area Director of Quincy Catholic Charities, said. “This gives us an opportunity to fill our shelves with quality items from a great organization.”

Kevin says the pantry is most grateful for the pallets of tuna fish. “We love to give protein options and simple ways that people can easily grab, not something high in sugar. It’s a good quality protein item.”

Because DOT allows pantries to pick the products they need, they enabled the Quincy Catholic Charities Food Pantry to fill the gaps without a single can going to waste.
